Temagami Temagami is a cosy town, nearby, just 10 minutes drive north of Ridgewood Cottages. Here you'll find gift shops, a wide selection of restaurants, and a few grocery shops. Allow time for a visit to the old Temagami fire tower, high up on Caribou Mountain. Perched high up, 100 feet on top of a 400 foot hill, you'll get an excellent view of Temagami and the surrounding forest. The steel fire tower first went up in the 1930s and was climbed daily to protect Ontario's forests - but it was badly constructed, and soon came down. A second tower was built in 1951 and was the centre piece of nine towers in the Temagami district, all within sight of each other. After months of restoration, a new tower was reopened on August 9th, 1998. |

The Municipality of Temagami is the municipal centre to the global attraction known as Temagami. Our slogan is EXPERIENCE TEMAGAMI and we hope that the glimpse you get on our home page will encourage you to personally come to our area to experience the hospitality of nature itself. Pristine lakes, 1000's of kilometres of canoe routes, untouched shorelines and destination quality lodging will turn your holiday into an unforgettable experience. We are a community proud of our diversity. A great place to visit and an even better place to live. The Temagami area is undergoing change with more protection being afforded to our parks, their headwaters and old growth stands of white and red pine. The growth in eco-tourism is cresting at the same time as we are developing more for you to enjoy. A fully accessible Fire Tower, with a view only the very brave at heart ever chanced to experience before, was recently completed in 98. The Municipality spearheaded the trail development in the White Bear Old Growth Forest. Said to be the sixth largest stand of old growth pine, the hiking trails are accessible by foot with available trail maps that will allow you to plan your trip and take as long as you want to enjoy the experience. There is no place in the world like
Temagami. Experience it by air, water or land - summer or winter, it is yours
to enjoy. |
